I'm still annoyed at how little consideration nuclear power is getting, especially with new technologies like reprocessing and upcoming fission-fusion hybrid designs that are design to destroy nuclear waste using the intense heat of fusion.

and this ad does the same trick "clean coal" does by making it look like burning coal is a mist of carbon dust coming out the chimneys

I prefer wind energy where its possible personally. I'd love to have a wind farm in my backyard, they're beautiful! The problem with nuclear plants is all the propaganda aimed at convincing people they're unsafe. :( They almost built one near me in Texas, but all the residents refused because of factually inaccurate information fed to them by the oil and gas companies. It's a shame.

Mercury and Air Toxin Act should (if EPA estimates are correct) reduce not only C02 but also dioxins and mercury :) Passed in December 2011. Technology has come along way and hopefully it will help get us out of the mess it helped put us in. I support real clean energy act but as a consumer of coal powered energy I cant say anything against it without being a Hippocratic person.

I find it slanderous for somebody who has probably never had to preform real labor to pass judgment on my profession. You can eat all that they are feeding you, that is your choice, however it is not as cut and dry as you would like it to be. If you want to drive your point home, take some initiative. Walk outside your house and switch the main disconnect on your house, and leave it off. Be a real crusader, don't sit at your keyboard and speculate.

@sundar213: really! A plant in Germany! Wow-- a plant burning coal withouth emitting CO2? In a country in Western Europe, where they actually give a scintilla of a damn about their environment? Sounds utterly implausible! Do link to more information. Maybe in a 100 years or so, we can get that here in America. Gosh, I'll keep my fingers crossed until then.

It isn't just scientifically proven. There is a plant in Germany that burns coal without emitting any carbon dioxide.
