1w 445nm blue burning laser

This is a 1.1w 445nm(Blue) burning laser. it is housed in an altoids box and thermal paste connects the diode to the box for cooling. the circuit is a lm317t and a 1-Ohm resistor along with a 47uF 35V capacitor. a 9v battery was used, even though the rating for a typical 9v is around 0.55Ah ( which means it wont power it for more than 28 minutes) and the lithium version can power it for at most 58 minutes with a rating of 1.2Ah

it didnt burn through this one but it does for others it last for atleast 30 minutes it is a nice cheap laser to build and you were right regular 9v suck. yes i used an aixiz housing. but im going to use cr123 lithium batteries you recommended for the laser gun im going to build. im thinking about building the red laser, maybe.

Part 2 - With the beam focused for burning, the CD case should burn through in under a second. Did you use the front of an aixiz housing tou mount your diode?

Nice work! I like a laser in an Altoids tin, they make for a cool little labby. Any plans for a red companion? Have you checked the current drawn from your battery with an ammeter? This diode should when run with your setup be able to start fires and rapidy burn a hole through 1/8" thick black plastic. A black CD case will be burned through in a few second with the beam set for distance, not even focused for burning.!
