@emforty2 The Hybrid refers to a hybrid DRIVE system. While the Prius and similar cars are driven by both the gas and the electric motors, the Volt is driven SOLELY by the electric motor.
While having a generator on board does use gas, the term hybrid, when used in the automotive industry, means a combination of more then one propulsion system. The Volt only uses one, therefore it is not a hybrid.
It is not an electric car (EV) either. It has an EV mode, but it is not an electric vehicle.

an electric driven car with a 1.4 liter gasoline motor to generate the electricity when the battery is gone is called a HYBRID not ELECTRIC CAR
DIESEL-ELECTRIC trains are not called electric trains its called DIESEL-ELECTRIC
ELECTRIC-GAS vehicle = HYBRID !!!
