From the episode, "Lucy Meets the Moustache" of the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour. The song meant so much more since it was the last episode of the popular I Love Lucy series. Lucy and Desi were also divorcing after a long tumultuous marriage. They still loved each other very much, but the problems that plagued the marriage couldn't keep them together. However, they remained friends even after they married other people, and when Desi died, Lucy was devastated. So in a sense, this song was meaningful for them both. All that they could give each other was love....that's all.

The last lines of the show....

Lucy: "Honey, honey, I just wanted to help."

Ricky: "From now on, you can help me by not trying to help me. But thanks, anyway."

That's All
Lyrics & Music by Alan Brandt and Bob Haymes, 1952
[brackets indicate Edie Adams' variation on the song]

I can only give you love that lasts forever
And a [the] promise to be near each time you call
And the only heart I own for you and you alone
That's all, that's all

I can only give you country walks in springtime
And a hand to hold when leaves begin to fall
And a love whose burning light will warm the winter night
That's all, that's all

There are those I am sure [who] have told you
They would give you the world for a toy
All I have are these arms to enfold you
And a love even time can't destroy
[And a love time can never destroy]

If you're wondering what I'm asking in return, dear
You'll be glad to know that my demands are small
Say it's me that you'll adore for now and evermore
That's all, that's all

[the following are not part of the original composition and what makes Edie Adams' version so special and unique]

I love you
Yes, I love you
That's all....

  • What year was this?

  • so tragic..... so moving.... can you imagine hearing this song with your marriage failing and your career making show coming to an end. I would be crying.... but her song made for a magical cinematic moment.... oh lucille ball.... i dont think anyone will forget you or stop loving you, despite how you felt at the end of your career and the way people reacted to your work at the end. Fans will always love you lucille ball....

  • She filed for divorce after this :(

  • The googling I have done seems to say it realy was Vivian Vance playing.

  • they wanted to stay married

  • they were so much in love in I Love Lucy & i only wanna think of them in love & married. They were the only loves of their lives

  • they are together in heaven & will be forever. Before Desi died they wished they were together & undid all the problems they had.

  • They kissed after divorce, i believe they were always married but i really wanna go back in time & change the past so they would stay married.

  • I would do anything to go back in time & change the past so they would stay married forever & worked it out. They should've stayed together & they wished they were together after & never got over each other. They were so much in love in 1940 til the rest of their lives. They could've got back together. They were married a long time. I read Vivian Vance was married to 2 of her husbands for 18 yrs is the longest she's been married.

  • I wish we could go back in time & make them stay married forever & they didn't have any problems.
