Over 3500 Eighth graders from the Ysleta Independent School District (YISD) in attendance learned more about basic scientific theories tested by several professional skateboarders, BMX racers and an inline skater during National GEAR UP Day on September 17, 2009 in the Don Haskins Center at UTEP. The Action Science Team, including Bill "Dr. Skateboard" Robertson, Ph.D., assistant professor of teacher education, used high-flying maneuvers to demonstrate physical science concepts such as the relationship between acceleration and velocity. The show incorporated parts of the four-part Dr. Skateboard's Action Science video series and an accompanying activity booklet.
