A workshop for young creators, choreographers, and dramaturgs aimed at expanding knowledge about the history of modern dance. In the workshop the participants will use books, news articles, journals, videos, DVDs, and other mediums that document dance in the last decades, to recreate and experience different methods of practice in the studio.
Through these workshops Peter Pleyer weaves and connects the most influential choreographers and improvisation artists in contemporary dance, from Merce Cunnningham through the members of the Judson Church Collective and through the work of Simone Forti, Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark Smith and others who influenced the development of postmodern dance. The methods will include: Grid Work, Contact Improvisation, Round Robbin, Ensemble Thinking, Viewpoint Theory, Touch Based Release Work, Authentic Movement, Working With Scores, Reconstructions, and more
