Wenn Ich Tanzen Will, from the German language musical Elisabeth. Original (German) lyrics, plus translated English lyrics. I strayed from the word for word "dictionary" (denotative) translation in places to find synonyms that I believe captured the connotative meanings better.

It is not without errors, predominantly stupid ones, unfortunately, and for that I apologize. I wasn't happy with the flow of the translation in some places, either, so if you have further suggestions feel free to comment.

Performing:
Der Tod - Uwe Kroeger
Elisabeth - Pia Douwes

  • I always found Mate too aggressive in this song. I love mate's version of Der Tod, however, here, I think I prefer Uwe. I find this extreemly hypnotic. Uwe has a quiet danger about him, Mate is a bit of a bully in this one!

Its a completly different interpretation of the song, as the performers have completly different interpretations of their characters.

  • Thank you so much for the translation.

And thank you very much for posting this!

  • I actually like this version a lot, much more than the Mate/Maya one. I think it's only the poor recording equipment that makes the sound weird because Uwe and Pia seem to sing pretty well, and I like how Tod gives Elisabeth a choice to turn him down, unlike with the 2004 version where Tod practically forces Elisabeth to dance with him :/

  • I prefer Máté Kamarás's characterisation of der Tod, and the tender, wheedling sound of his voice when he sings softly, but when he sings more loudly, I find it does not equal Uwe Kröger's.

  • I <3 love this song so much

  • @atheshar yep this IS death and death is emotionless- but the thought that the death gets to know passion and love himself- that's why i love it that máté and maya are so passionate.

the one like uwe more, 'cause he is so cold, I like máté more, 'cause for me it is like he gets to know what real love is, and begions to be passionate...a bit like in this movie date with joe black or however it is called :D

  • death is cool

  • I actually like the staging better than the Mate/Maya version... but Pia sounds like she is really straining for those notes and it's pretty unpleasant. Interesting contrast between the two der Tod's, I like both interpretations: cold and passionate.
