Regardless, I suspect you are alluding to the notion of America being a Republic, likely in the Madisonian tradition of representative as opposed to direct democracy. But, honestly, in reality, I doubt the US is /actually/ a Republic or a direct Democracy. At this point our Federal Government is largely controlled by multi-national corporation, making it soe variation of a Corporatocracy.
