If you've ever wanted to grow crystals, but were afraid they wouldn't work, then this is the perfect crystal-growing project for you. Alum crystals are beautiful, non-toxic and are easy and quick to grow. See how you can grow your own alum crystals.

  • I did this and my crystals were very watery. i left it over night, and i checked it the next morning, and the salt had all reformed, and dropped to the bottom, it felt like sand. what should i do?

  • @dipolargryphon you can buy it at many grocery stores. i got mine at Walmart. it should be in the spices section! :)

  • Thank u so much really helped awsome vid just wondering where do u get alum?

  • We did this in chem but the complicated way reacting aluminum and all that, but only small crystals grew, I guess you have to add the chemicals at the right temperature or something to get large crystals to grow. In all the crystal experiments in chemistry ive done I can only get small crap for crystals to grow for some reason, sucks.

  • @jmanrunner Why would you eat it?

  • How do you make them bigger? Do you add more water and alum?

  • What do you do if you want larger ones? Do you just add more water and alum?

  • do you need to keep it constant light?

  • Would adding food coloring change the color?

  • are there any other chemicals in the spice rack that you can make crystals from? can u name 4, that will help a lot :)
