It's a pity such an amazing horse, or any horse really, could be cruelly killed the way he was. And that's how humans treat a champion. Forget all his accomplishments and treat him like a lifeless object. His owners deserved a much longer prison sentence.

You just can't remember Affirmed without remembering Alydar. I think they pushed eachother to excel just as a good friend can push you to be a better person. May they forever run stride for stride in the kingdom of heaven.

My horse is his grand daughter, and at 20yrs old this year she gave birth to a stunning 1/2 Connemara great grandson.

Carly=love this video=beautiful music & beautiful Alydar. So sad to find out about his tragic demise! Alydar was named for Prince Aly Kahn (once married to Rita Hayworth). Named by his society matron owner who greeted Aly Kahn with:Aly, Darling!" Was this owner the husband of the man who killed Alydar? Alydar loved her so much he bowed when he saw her. She said the only race she cried after was the Belmont when Alydar lost by 1/4 of a head! Vicki

Stumbled into horse racing in '78 while channel surfin, what a story teller Jim McKay was. Fell in love with Alydar. May they both RIP.

Wonderful tribute. It's good to know he'll still be lovingly remembered while the money-obsessed parasites whoabused him in that way will go down in history as scum.

Breaks my hear to see this video. My all time favorite racehorse. No matter what, I always think he is the best both as a racehorse as a sire. Strike the Gold is my favorite Alydar baby. No matter what, I will always hold J.T. Lundy responsible for his death.
