This is the second day of fabrication on my M101A2 military trailer to camper conversion. I have completed adding all the crossbars and added two angle brackets for rigidity. I also add the hinges to the front of the trailer so that the top will hinge up. Near the end of the video you will see how far it is going to hinge open.
What does the top weigh?
I removed as much weight I could on mine, surge brake system "Did Not work"
drums, brackets, lines, original safety chains, military wheels and tires, sold the stake sides, and parts too! Mine weighs in at 1300 lbs I tow it with a 2002 GMC Sierra 2500hd.
I can't tell it is back there.

@trainman15139 I would guess the top weighs about 60 pounds so far. I don't know what the final weight will be but it will be about equivalent to the original bows and rubber tarp. That original rubber coated tarp is a lot heavier than I thought it would be. That's the military, overbuilt to the max!

Cool build!
What are you going to skin the cover with?
RTT on top? Paint and matching jeep wheels?
This is my build.
I have a build blog on expedition portal

@trainman15139 I was going to cover it with King "Starboard". But maybe some aluminum diamond plate. If I go with diamond plate i will camo paint it to match the trailer. I'd have to replace the axle under the trailer if I was going to put on matching jeep rims (its a TJ 4.5 on 5 I think), but the trailer is 6 lug. Not worth the expense. I'm trying to keep is cheap! More updates after I get it painted and figure out the cheapest way to cover it. Thanks for watching!
