Bought this thinking it was going to last longer, being it metal casing and was only going to use a external lavalier microphone which the one built in, has omni mics, it can't generate proximity effect bass boost. Of course, it can't capture a stereo (solid) image either, its recordings are two channel mono. Well twice sent it for repair, for the sd slot stop working and now the mic input no longer works, when with a zoom h2 sound quailty is much better with builtin mics and works as a USB mic.

This is a really beautiful device..one of the best portable recorders out there no question
Did you use the unit for your utube sound? your voice sounds "tinny" to me.

@daisydesignphoto nope, I was using a hand held digital camera (samsung) not this device. Take it from me, the sound you record will be outstanding.

@daisydesignphoto Hi Daisydesignphoto - actually this is the sound from my Casio Digital Camera and it sounds tinny.

Hi Steven - Thanks for leaving a note. I don't want to harsh your tech buzz, but just a heads up that the external mic connector on both the PCM-M10 and the more expensive PCMD50 are problematic. I've had to sent them both into Sony service for repair, TWICE. The overall sound quality though cannot be matched by anything in their price range. The pre-amps in both are outstanding. Even after the repairs and more than a year of ownership, I can say that I highly recommend this device. Have fun.

@ollivjee Glad to hear that the PCM10 is working out for you. I love Sony's pre-amp's, but the mic connections on both this model and my PCM-D50 have both been in for repair and have failed again, so that's a little dissapointing. I am planning to send the PCM10 in to have the mic jack jack fixed next week. Good luck and let me know how it holds up over time for you!
