My family works= Not homeless. We don't drink, smoke, do drugs. We pay a mortgage our home isn't free. We worked for a year to build the homes of other Habitat families. We live with black mold, termites, and roaches. Some have had their homes burn down, some caught in Katrina. It isn't easy to be approved by Habitat. You need to have some money and be able to fix your credit.

The fact that this video hasn't been pulled is just ridiculous. This is offensive to anyone who is connected to Habitat's mission, including myself. We work VERY hard to break down the stereotypes of Habitat for Humanity and our families. This is mean and counterproductive.

This is Habitat for Humanity based in Dallas. I wanted to help you get your facts straight.

1) ALL of the families that Habitat builds houses with have jobs that meet a minimum of 25% AMI and a max of 60% AMI (Average Median Income), which in Dallas is at minimum $11,625 (for a single person) and a max of $52,700 (for a family of 8).

2) ALL families go though a one year process (if not longer) of taking classes, paying off any debts, fixing credit, and saving for the title fees.

3) ALL of our families, here and Dallas and around the world, pay for their houses! Habitat gets sponsors to pay for the materials to build the homes and then the families pay Habitat back for the home at zero interest. Since the homes are technically already paid for by the sponsors and built for free by the families and volunteers, the money that is paid to habitat by the families goes to building a new house for another family. It is a sustainable model.

4) Homeowners are required to stay in their homes and may not sell it for five years. This helps bring stabilization and revitalization to neighborhoods.
