Edward Herrmann, not Edward Franklin. He also portrayed Franklin D. Roosevelt.

That's not really a disagreement. I said the "made it work because he was a great actor". I was talking more about physical type. Cooper looked nothing like Gehrig and, while he was an excellent horseman, he had no ballplaying skills.

The "iron Horse" as Lou was known, has the greatest stats of the great ones that played the game. Solid as a rock, and  truly a good man. The type of hero you just don't see that much anymore.

i heard about lou gerhig at skool i thought it was a sad story and kinda good cause he had never missed a day of skool and hes mom never liked sports she says its a waist of time

The strangest people have played Lou Gehrig- Gary Cooper, Edward Franklin and here, Wendell Corey. In the 30's Dick Foran or Wayne Morris would have looked more the part than Gary Cooper, (who made it work because he was a great actor). In recent years Jeff Bridges or Kurt Russell would have been good.
