Regulate drug laws and the cartels immediately go out of business. We've now solved prison overcrowding and border violence at once.

Another solution , Stop killing, raping , stealing , selling drug , etc . etc . that may help also !

nonviolent, victimless drug possession does not warrant incarceration

I agree, there is no ez solution....the great thinkers just have to keep thinking of ways to improve rehabilitation for all offenders.

I agree...But the body fat% is considered dicrimination, I applaude your other requirement suggestions. No one is locked up 24hrs a day unless they want to be. Everyone gets recreation. And you right about ignoring line staff...it must be budget thing i suppose.

X Sgt of Corrections says stop locking up drug offenders in order to use them as free labor .Stop CIA from bringing into or country drugs via military air craft and government planes.Texas wake up this is not a conspiracy it is fact that our sorry government is dumping these drugs on to our streets. Its your body what you put into it is your fault but if it were me it wouldnt be against the law.Release the harmless hempf smugglers and user pot has not ever killed anyone.

I am a Texan...and a C.O. in the Texas prison system. Jwalkin will give me a ticket. I won't like it, but I'll pay it. Getting busted drug dealing for the first time is something different.....that is a serious crime and requires swift punishment. And if you break into my house and steal...that simple act of theft will simply get you shot. I would not even recieve a slap on the hand. So crackersareus, don't break those laws that are FELONIES, and you too can stay out of jail/prison.

I agree that there are those who have commited a crime, and are not career criminals. However, equal rights extend into our prisons, the state cannot seperate inmates based on their crimes...only by their behavior. So those serving long sentences.....they did something really bad. Those wth bad behavior....will most likely act unlawfully when released. It's simple statistics. I do have loved ones incarcerated...In hate drugs, drug dealers, and what it does to people. Thankyou for responding

I think Nancy Reagan's just say no policy was best, not because marajuana is inherently a more harmful substance than alcohol or junk food, but because its illegal no-one can regulate what goes into it & accordingly it can contain harmful substances.

I wouldn't say legal drugs are the majority pf the problems. Mary jane is the gateway. As MANY times as we have heard that, it's painfully true. It's what all drug addicts start with, usually as children, which leads them to people selling other harder drugs. Alcohol may be very dangerous but if we legalized marijuana but before took in to account how many accidents and death, including victims, that are the cause of marijuana and then legalized the stuff, we would be mad.
stop arresting non violent politacal prisoners then!

thats too simple an issue, the problem here is not only criminals but the US penal and justice system. In the US there are people serving 25 years to life for possesing a stick of cannibis, this is crazy!
