From the way I see it, CHANNEL 6 decided to let PROGRAMMING handle putting together the promotion of the morning newscast instead of letting NEWS do it, given that local morning news was at its' infancy at the time. Plus, CHANNEL 3 already introduced a 6:30am newscast with 3 TODAY in February 1981, so CH. 6 jumped in to see if it would catch fire. But given my observation, CH. 6 gave top priority to ABC NEWS THIS MORNING in 1982 when it could've kept the 6:30am intact. Were ratings a factor?

Here's what I remember. ACTION NEWS had two 15 minute newscast (6:15a & 6:45a) with ELLIOT RODRIGUEZ up until the late 80's when MONICA MALPASS took over. Then in 1989, ACTION NEWS reintroduced a 30 minute newscast at 6:30AM. It wasn't until 1996 when I found out looking through a 1981 TV GUIDE that ACTION NEWS had a 30 minute newscast at 6:30am. So was it because of WORLD NEWS THIS MORNING that ACTION NEWS decided to break up the morning news into 2 parts? Or are their other reasons too?
