Garrett Elder

Garrett Elder is a six year old from owensboro, ky, who is suffering from a mysterious blood disease. He developed a blood clot in his left leg on april 7, 2008 and was taken to kosairs childrens hospital, louisville, ky on april 8, 2008. Garrett was given a blood thinner called heperan and had a reaction causing numerous blood clots in his body. Kosairs lifeflighted him to vanderbilt childrens hospital, nashville, tn. on april 10th.
Garrett stayed at vanderbilt for four months, while there he received numerous blood transfusions, chemotherapy treatment and many medications. He does not have an immune system. He has to receive two blood thinning injection every day to keep him alive.
Garrett is home with his family and kept fairly isolated from too many people. He is being home schooled by a teacher from his elementary school.
