Hungarian rock band.
Edvard Grieg's "Peer Gynt Suite" recorded by PANTA RHEI in 1976.

The music on this version is edited to a shorter time, for the video, the full version can be heard on their 1997 CD compilation Epilogus.
Features mind blowing musicianship from the band.

A pure ELP influenced band.
A great rock adaption of a classical piece.

Pure full on Prog Rock and Symphonic Music.

CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED BAND!!

  • Is this elp?

  • No, it's from a very obscure Prog rock band from Hungary called 'Panta Rhei'.

They were influenced by ELP though.

  • Well, i thought it was kinda cool...

But the drum rythms sounds weird and messy, and even off beat sometimes.

  • Maybe when they recorded this, they probably did not record it as a band together in one go?, maybe the drums would have sounded better if they had played as a band I wonder.

  • the guitarist from panta rhei is my physics professor at johns hopkins now...interesting career change

  • Why is it so difficult to understand this music which was made in the same manner as ELP´s Blue rondo a la Turk ? Pantha Rhei was a very good band with his own distinctive music. I liked them.

  • ... Majd 40 éve hallottam utoljára!!!

    Micsoda emlékek törnek elő!

    Nagyon köszönöm!!! ;)))

  • @kraftneu panta rhei sounds more like a very dangerous cult then a rockband, but ok...

  • Azon magyar együttesek közé tartozik akik a 70-es évek közepén feldolgozásokat játszottak de perifériára szorulva alig maradt hangzó anyag . Úgy hogy köszi azon zeneszerető emberkéknek akik ezeket feltöltötték ide. :)

  • '76?? damn.. pretty advanced stuff for its time

  • Great track! Indeed there are a lot of such gems in the former East-Bloc once hidden behind the iron curtain.

A vivid example for that is Russian prog rock band of the late 70s called HORIZONT (which is IMO one of the best prog rock bands ever).

Try for instance " Snowballs by Horizont " and you'll get a smashing example of original Soviet symphonic prog.

  • great prog rock track

  • Incredable! Edward Grieg?

  • I respectfully disagree.

Great music transcends nation, religion, ideology, and all those thing imposed upon the human mind to divide humanity

  • He must have removed his own comments, I know I haven't taken any comments off.

    Hope that helps, cheers kraftneu!

  • Why did you removed KenThule's comment? It contained nothing wrong! By mistake?
