Kind of reminds me of Del Mar, back when the jockies used to walk their horses on the beach; right there across from the race track next to Torrypines. Yeah, back in Southern California's paradise days; back before the Nineteen-Eighties would crowd the beaches beyond recognition.
This is my home and I greatly miss the Chincoteague Wild Ponies strolling along the beach. They are now fenced in, although they do break out from time to time. Check out Wild Pony Tales on the web to learn more about these national treasures.
Also, when u pop ur trunk...they come over and stick their heads in to see if u have anything good to eat in there. Ur right, no one pays attention to them...at Assateague people are the visitors and the ponies have full access to everything. If they want to walk in front of you, you had better stop and allow them to pass. It's one of my favorite places back home~
They are on the beach because the Spanish ship they were on sunk hundreds of years ago & the island is now their home. They bite & kick which is why we stand still when they come close. Sadly they have learned that people in cars feed them even though it's not allowed & many are hit on the road trying to find food.
