From a Helmut Lotti fan meeting in Utrecht, Netherlands on May 18, 2000. In the street outside Cafe Joseph, Michael leads a group of fans in a rendition of "Friends". I apologize for the poor quality of this video. This is the Michael I knew: silly, a little bit hyperactive, enjoying his success and his fans. I don't know who made this video but I thank them. It is very charming I think.
The ladies - not teenyboppers, but polite, delighted, matronly grown women - were all over him, and that's something that could never happen in these United States. The shrieking "tweens" would've shoved 'em away and mobbed the kid.
For all that, Michael J showed not only a great sense of fun with friendly fans but also some real regard for their happiness despite the fact that toward the end of the video he was obviously getting tired and ready to snooze off.
Nice kid back then.
