  • So, how come they don't mention Harold Hardraada even once?

  • They missed out the intersting stuff. Such as the fact that the Norse army was not only led by Harald Hardrade, but also by Tostig Godwinson, the brother of King Harold, whom he had banished a few months before these events. It was Tostig that went to the Norwegian King, Harald, and convinced him to invade Britain. Well, you know what families are like ...

  • @chillout010 True, but its mainly because hastings

  • why do the say "we".

  • so useful for my history

  • @movienaut Actually, the saxons weren't good riders. But the huscarls often were mounted when the army was marching to the battlefield but they dismounted then there so they were fresh and not exhausted from marching.

  • they did mention harold hardrade in part 2

  • @lesterclaypool1 if ur talking about the viking king its Harald not Harold

  • @chillout010 no i think they do mention harrold ,, at least in the first part , but yes they should make mention of his name many times so we get to know whos who ,,, i guess you and i are lucky for knowing who they are and what they did

  • @chillout010 Maybe.. because

    a) They didn't have enough info on him

    b) They didn't have important info on him

    c) couldn't be bothered to make a computerised pic of him

    d) all of the above

  • @IncaRoad01 about the saxon cavalry, I think the saxons did have a cavalry, because I read some text where they mention mounted saxons, but their cavalry wasn't as trained as the norman cavalry. So Harold dismounted all men from their horses and let them stand with the infantry in Hastings.

  • @ShowYourWorking In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice they are not!

Combined arms won the day for the Normans. The Saxon's with their all infantry line up; could only hope to stand and hold to the end of the day. While the Norman's tried to figure out how to make them break their formation. And they tried and tried until they did.
