Keeping guns also means that the tool to murder is much easier. If somebody was bullied in school, he could more easily go back to school next day and go on a killing spree.

This is a classic dysfunctional argument. If someone is hell bent on killing people they will get a gun, whether legal or illegally. They WILL get their hands on a gun somehow. So what you're saying is WE can't protect ourselves against them because keeping a gun out our hands will make it harder for them to get one. It's B.S. Criminals and murderers never have any trouble getting weapons.

@TPOCS Wouldn't it make it more difficult for them to possess firearms? I agree with you that they will probably still commit murder, but without a gun or making it extremely difficult to get one, they'll have to resort to other means. Knives, ropes, poison, clubs, axes, etc. Most of the criminals in my area kill others with their fist or knives and seriously injure others with glass bottles. It's just that giving everyone guns will make it easier to deal damage much more quickly. Pros and cons.

Well, you are really making my point for me. Criminals will find a way to do the harm they want to do. In order to keep guns out of a criminals hands you also keep them out of OUR hands. You cannot take MY RIGHT to protect myself from someone else who wants to do me harm. That's nuts. It's a fact that if a criminal knows a population is armed, they are much less likely to put their own life at risk. They will seek out people who aren't armed to attack.

@TPOCS There is also the deterrent of the populace at large being armed. Look at America, the states with strict fire arm laws have higher instances of fire arms being used in crime, and higher rates of murders involving fire arms. When the criminal knows he is armed and his victims aren't then he'll be brave. If he knows there's a 50/50 chance of him ending up 6 feet under he'll rethink his actions.

That's exactly right. A person has no right to say I can't defend myself. If they don't want to have a gun fine, but don't tell me I can't have one because they make you uncomfortable. Much of that discomfort and misunderstanding about guns has been deliberately socially conditioned into us. You're right, if a criminal knows the area has a lot of gun owners, they don't know which houses have loaded guns behind the front door. It's good for the dipwads that don't want a gun too.

It's not about protecting the people its about limiting the ability of people to have the means to revolt! The police chief granted firearms certificates to people with known mental health issues knowing what would happen. After a few horrific incidents here in the UK the powers that be then pushed for more controls which they then secured with the backing of a now frightened people.  The media played a large part in this operation.

Finally, an officer of the law does not have to lay down his life in order to save you. I know shocking right? look it up. a cop can turn around and run away if he/she wants too. So what the hell are you going to do then? First off, put yourself in the shoes of a criminal. Where would you get a gun? a gun store where they have all your information and can trace the gun back to you or out of the trunk of a car with a gun that has all serial numbers scratched off and nearly untraceable? I'd buy it out of the trunk of a car.
