Quest for the Tomb of Cleopatra at Taposiris Magna (feat. Dr. Kathleen Martinez)

( http://heritage-key.com/blogs/sean-williams/digging-cleopatras-tomb-taposiris... ) Dr Kathleen Martinez, a young archaeologist from the Dominican Republic, has been excavating a site near Alexandria in the search for the tomb of Cleopatra. After being given permission to conduct a dig at the site for 2 months, Dr Martinez's team have discovered two chambers which has won them the right to continue the dig into the next season.

Describing the tomb that was discovered at Taposiris Magna, Dr Martinez remains confident that she will uncover the tomb of Cleopatra and Marc Anthony.

@wingmakers54 It's just that... a legend. It would be difficult to positively identify a mummy as Cleopatra at that time; were she buried in a Greco-Roman sarcophagus, they'd be going by face alone, and were it Egyptian, they would have to have knowledge of hieroglyphs, which they didn't have. A mummy was probably chosen and romanticized as a familiar character to the French to give some validity to the Egyptian campaign, seeing as it was sort of a waste.

Wha about the legend that Napolean took many mummies back to Europe and one of those was Cleopatra. When her sarcophagi started to disintigrate it is said they buried her in the gardens next to the Louvre in Paris.

There are so many interesting messages in Cleopatra's story:: the defeat of what was the east by the west, Cleopatra was the last pharoic ruler of Egypt with thousands of years that preceeded her; the disdain by men of women who have both sexual and political power, and the extent they will go to to prevent that; and ultimately the invincibility of deep love over desire for power in spite of a social/political context that was out to destroy it.

how can they find Antony's tomb when he was burnt to ashes. Cleopatra when in order to bury him, held the urn of his ashes as she was carried away to the tomb which she planned to bury Antony - Plutarch.
