Yeywa Hydro power Project (2001 to 2010).The third-largest in the world, 134 m high, 2.5M m3 of concrete
The scheme comprises a 134m high RCC gravity dam with a total volume of 2.5M m3 of concrete. Other features include an ungated spillway for a design flood of 6,600m3/s and a 790MW (4 x 197MW) powerhouse at the toe of the dam on the left bank.
The Yeywa project will use four turbines each capable of generating 197.5 MW, giving it a total capacity of 790 MW. The power house for the turbines is 510 feet long, 148 feet wide and 197 feet high. U San Wai said the power house and the dam wall would be able to withstand earthquakes of up to eight on the Richter scale. He said a Swiss company, Colenco Power Engineering, was acting as technical consultant for the project, which is being built by the department and three Chinese companies.

River diversion at Yeywa
The Myitwge River -- a tributary of the Ayeyarwady -- was diverted through the diversion tunnels on 12 December, thus completing a further Stage of this important Project.

22nd August 2005
The Second Full Scale Trial at Yeywa
The Second full-scale trial was completed at Yeywa. This was used to further train the DHP operatives and engineers in the procedures of RCC construction and also to investigate various retarders to extend the initial set of the RCC required 18 to 24 hours
24th January 2006
The Third (and final) full-scale trial completed at Yeywa
