T55AG

This is an upgraded version of the Soviet-designed T-55 battle tank, developed by the Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau. Upgraded in three key areas - firepower, mobility and protection, - the tank features a new integrated gun-and-fire control system, explosive reactive armour array, optronic countermeasures system, more powerful engine and some other improvements.

I read an article from a peruvian news site that said the Peruvian Armed Forces were going to upgrade their T-55's to this version to compliment the new tanks they'll be getting from china, is this true?

Yes, and Leopard 2. It have 125 mm gun and ATGM.

The main question about this T-55 upgrade is: Is this cheaper than buying a new T-80 or T-90 tank??

@Alexander1068 This is an utterly wrong comparison. The proper thing is to compare the T-55 with contemporary U.S. toys which are the Pattons...and the Pattons were surpassed in every parameter. The Pattons looked like old upgraded ww2 machines, whereas the T-55 was the ultimate tank development.

@MrBuddydan You're correct: due to new electric turret gear and new stabilizer (from Oplot MBT) the speed of turret turning is 40 degrees/sec. Soviet T-72 - 16 d/sec., Russian T-90S - 24 d/sec.  40 d/sec. is quite OK: compare with Leo2 that has some 48 d/sec., M1A2 is slightly less - 42 d./sec., correct me if I'm wrong... Thanks!

A very impressive rebuild for this venerable and robust hero.Turret traverse time seems to have been enhanced as well,which will allow it to track faster,more modern MBTs,something Saddams monkey model T-72s couldnt do.
