This is splendid - the tempo is not too fast - it is perfect.

To those who think the tempo taken here is too fast: in Pachelbel's time, time signatures would often indicate the approximate tempo a piece is suppose to be taken (for pieces that don't have tempo words or aren't dances). We know from several sources from this era that a time signature C (which is what this piece uses) would indicate a "comfortable" tempo for a quarter note which has been established as about 60 - 80 bpm. Here the bass line is written in quarters and is taken at about 67 bpm.
