Israel is soon to see self service stations at supermarkets, as shoppers will find in the USA and in some European countries. This will mean that shoppers will not need to queue for a checkout assistant, all they will need is a membership card from their local supermarket and they can scan and pay for all of their shopping themselves. The news have had mixed responses in Israel with some delighted at the news that they won't have to wait in long queues. Supermarkets will be able t save money on checkout workers however some critics have said that the new technology could mean job cuts for people who are unskilled who may find difficulties finding other work.

  • Australian supermarkets have had these for about 3 years. It's still a novelty and many people refuse to use the machines because they will eventually replace workers.
