The 1956 River Murray flood is considered to be the greatest natural catastrophe in South Australia's history and is the largest flood ever recorded in the state. The flood peaked 12.3 metres at Morgan.
This is an extract of footage taken by Laurence S. Casson from a plane, showing the impact of the flood on the towns and farms along the river. The film is part of the collection of the State Library of South Australia which holds 48 film reels taken by Laurence S Casson between 1934-1976.

Yep. The murray in South Australia is stuffed. Local councils have allowed far too many housing developments on the banks and now it almost impossible to get a good camp site or good fishing spot. If you want to see the murray in good health go to Victoria where it is still beautiful.
