I agree, you should be able to build a structure for yourself on your own property without permit. Then later if you sell, the structures would be inspected top to bottom to make sure they are safe for the people who buy. Unfortunately there are people too stupid to build anything safely so we have building inspections to make sure the structures are safe. There are people out there who build with nothing more in mind than selling to make a profit and WILL cut corners unless watched closely.

@WDeet I cant agree more. Building codes should only apply to commercial construction companies to prevent them from ripping off consumers and harming them but private property home built structures should never need codes and permits.

With so much contact with the earth, and with FL being rather moist, were there any special precautions taken vis-a-vis a ship built in NM?

Not the first in Florida! One was built in Lake Helen in the 80's on Kicklighter road with some grant money from Volusia Co.
In a free country you could just build what you wanted on your own land without having to beg permission from your government overlords, and pay bribes/fees for nothing more than permission to be an adult. Nice concept though, I hope you are minimally hassled by the true owners of the land, i.e. the government. I am sure the property taxes, (your perpetual rent), will claim those junk tires are now worth hundreds of thousands of dollars!
