Play As Master Hand WITHOUT Action Replay - Name Entry Glitch

Very recently, a new Super Smash Bros. Melee glitch was found by Exchord92. Basically, it allows to start a fight without meeting the regular conditions required (more than one player, more than one team and all participating players with characters assigned). As a result, one can start one-player "melees," battles with a single team of four, and, most importantly, play as MASTER HAND in any modes or event matches that involve a character select screen.

You cannot play as Crazy Hand, Giga Bowser, Sandbag, nor any other NPCs. Just Master Hand.

With one controller - this is an explanation on how it's done, by Greenalink:

* Place your main controller on the player 3 slot (Master Hand only moves as Player 3)
* Select an event that you can 'choose any character'.
* Go to the name list and go down to Name entry, but dont go there yet.
* Tap B to remove the list.
* Open the list again and during the time the list is revealing, hold the B button and quickly get the cursor to Name entry.
* When you hear the cancel sound effect tap the A button on Name entry ASAP so that it will take you to the next screen and play as Master Hand.

With two controllers (easy, but not usable in one player modes - just multiplayer melees) - this is an explanation by BrianMp16:

- select whatever characters you want before the fight
- on one of the controllers, without selecting a character, go to the name option
- go to "create a name" but don't press it yet.
- on another controller with a character selected, go to the "back" button but don't press it yet.
- at the same time, press both the "back" button and "create a name" button with the two controllers.
- if done right, the stage selection menu will appear at which point you can pick your stage.

Notes by BrianMp16 and myself:

-To attack with Master Hand, hold any direction on the D-Pad and press either R, L, Z, A, or B to do an attack.
-The game might freeze upon selecting a stage, and, less often, right in the character select screen after performing this exploit..
-Master Hand can't die except in stamina mode.
-Master Hand can only be controlled from the third controller slot no matter what slot he's selected from.
-If a game is finished, the game will freeze.
-If you choose to end the game to have a "no contest," Master Hand will have no picture and be called Sheik.
-Master Hand moves along with moving stages.
-Master Hand will be in 2D in Flat Zone.
-Master Hand will ALWAYS have an "epic entrance," EXCEPT in event match 50, "Final Destination Match."
-If used in HRC, Multi-man Melee, or any modes than involve scores (except BTT, in which the game will freeze), any scores you get with Master Hand will count as Mario's (if you get 999 KOs with Master Hand in Cruel Melee, you will get a WR with Mario).
