I find your page quite wonderful..I've never taken salsa lesson, but watching your videos for almost 2 years I can easly dance salsa at the club..! =) S, thanks very much!! I've only a little problem:even if I can well follow my guy, I fell always very shy and I fear of appearing awkwad because I haven't gained the full mastery of my body...I'd very like to dance as this fantastic girl, CAN YOU UPLOAD A VIDEO TOTALLY DEDICATED TO WOMEN WHO WISH TO BE FEARLESS BUT AT THE SAME TIME SIMPLY? =)

I don't care how many hundred moves you know, this is not beginner. You dig?
-
What's the level BEFORE "beginner" called? Cos that's where I am.
If I try what's in the video I'll twist my ankle & dislocate my partner's knee!
I've been in classes for 3 months but am learning mostly that there's sooooo much MORE to learn!
Irish bones. Can't be helped I'm afraid.

This may sound like a silly question, but I have never taken dance classes so i don't unerstand the purpose of counting. Doesn't it take you off beat? And why is it that you skip 4 in the count. 1,2,3...5,6,7?
Thanks!

Counting actually keeps you on beat because it forces you to mark your steps at the right time. It adds the use of another of your senses to your learning.
Counting in dance goes from 1 through 8. In salsa dancing counts 4 and 8 are considered pauses in the steps (no steps) and therefore they are omitted.

but then is the beat that fast ... cuz sumtimes it looks like you are skipping over 4 and 8... im currently taking a beginner's class... and in there we go forward with left on 1 then go 2, 3, pause for 4 then back 5 6 7 then pause then repeat. it just seems like they way your showing, (im not saying its wrong, i think i would prefer your way to what im learning personally) looks like its ignoring 4 and 8 pauses....

@David534ever That is correct when learning. However the trick is, once you get to adding your own style you can use the count 4 as part of the motion of step 5 - so you reduce the abruptness of a stop. Check out the video where I explain the 'Styled Basic Step'. This is just a very introductory video to reduce confusion for beginners.

@selale77 We do it better in our newer videos. This was the first time we did this and have learned how to do videos better. Thanks for the feedback.
