This is a 40 minute lecture that was given by Terry Gilliam at our school in London in 1991, just after the theatrical release of "The Fisher King". I was lucky enough to chair the discussion and introduce the speaker. Recently I finally found the time to digitise the talk, clean it up, resync the sound and put it back together from separately-recorded mic-audio & VHS elements.

Apart from the original audience in the room, no-one has seen or heard this talk since it was given 18 years ago. As a part of Monty Python's Ruby Jubilee, I thought it would be fun to share it with the community. Gilliam talks animatedly about his career to-date, covering the Python TV shows and movies, approaches to writing and filmmaking and his outlook on life in general.

The material was digitally remastered from a VHS camera recording and an audio cassette. Video quality is acceptable, if a bit soft. A few wobbles from the cameraman. Audio quality is excellent thanks to a clean recording from the desk microphone and some digital clean-up. Where someone else in the room is speaking - to give the introduction or ask a question - I've tried to use the sound from the video recording, so the quality drops noticeably at these times. Share and Enjoy.

  • Terry Gilliam's answers come across clearly but the bloke introducing him sounds as if he is recorded with his head in a bucket of water
