Ta-Nehisi Coates, Richard Thompson Ford, Shelby Steele and Charles Kamasaki discuss the immigration question that has changed politics in the last two years. The panelists also address the challenge posed by discussing racism in the public sphere.

Hosted by the Aspen Institute, The 2008 Aspen Ideas Festival will engage its participants in a variety of programs, tutorials, seminars and discussion events which together are guaranteed to charge the atmosphere with vibrant intellectual exchange. Think of it as a week-long summer university for the mind -- remarkable lectures and classes across a stimulating array of topics.

  • Shelby Steele should be THE voice of America with regards to issues centering around race. For my book, he's the ONLY person worth listening to on these subjects. His viewpoints COMMAND respect.

He's bright, he's articulate, he's experienced segregation personally, he doesn't have an axe to grind, he knows what brings people together, he's not a part of the 'race industry,' etc.

  • Why couldn't they find some real black people; you know black people that are happy to be black. Not these want to be white with black skin black people. I hate black people like this. They try so hard to be white its ridicules. They try to dress white talk white just a bunch of bryant gumble blacks; sad thing to see.

Black people love yourself, be your self, and enjoy your life.

  • Slavery and immigration, same difference. We are after cheep labor.

Wow. I did not expect that voice. I need to check my self.

(shampoovta thats not cool. Why would that shock you? Just because he sounds like Carlton form The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Don't be a jerk!)

Wow. Did not expect myself to react like that.
