Unbelievable. ASTONISHING security camera footage of a Melbourne baby's miracle escape when a pram was hit by a peak-hour train has just been released.
Witnesses fearing the worst were stunned when the six-month-boy was hauled from the tracks with little more than a bump on his head.
The near-miss happened at Ashburton station as a city-bound train pulled into the station just after 4pm yesterday.
T More..he baby was strapped into a three-wheeler pram that rolled forward and toppled on to the tracks.
The pram was carried 30m as the desperate driver tried to pull up the 250 tonne train. It ploughed into the pram at about 35km/h, dragging the child along beneath the front carriage.
Witnesses watched in horror, fearing the baby had no hope.
But he was safely back in his mother's arms when ambulance officers arrived minutes later.
Ambulance Victoria intensive care paramedic Jon Wright said the distraught baby bounced back with just a bump to the side of the head.
"Apparently he needed a feed and a nap," he said.
The near-tragedy follows a spate of dangerous incidents involving prams on Melbourne's rail network.
It came just days after Connex and Kidsafe warned parents to be more vigilant, particularly when using popular three-wheel prams.
Mr Wright said the narrow escape showed how careful parents have to be.
"Luckily he was strapped into his pram at the time, which probably saved his life. I think the child's extremely lucky," he said.
"Fortunately the train was slowing as it pulled into the station," Mr Wright said.
"It's a good learning point for parents to ensure that children are securely strapped into whatever transport medium they're in, be that a car seat or a pram."
The baby was taken to the Royal Children's Hospital and released last night.
A police spokeswoman described the escape as amazing.
"This could have been so much worse. We're very thankful," she said.
The accident forced trains to be suspended on the Alamein line, causing major delays to travellers.
Spokesman John Rees said Connex was investigating how the pram rolled off the platform on to the tracks.
Connex has CCTV footage of the incident, which police will use in their investigation.
Mr Rees said the driver would be offered counselling.
"We are grateful this has not ended in a fatality," he said.

It amazes me how people STILL don't get what happened. No, she didn't just stand there and watch her baby roll away. Have you ever caught a train? What do you do when a train is arriving at a platform? I tell you what you do; you stare at it arriving. EVERYONE does. It's a natural reaction. This woman did the same as she let go of the pram to adjust her trousers. And in that instance she didn't notice the pram rolling away. And by the time she did, it was too late.
it cud be a bogus video or made up by that group of female...look closely to the female holding the blue color bag, after the pram is on the track, train passes, but her reactions were not realistic, she seem to be making a false body language, come on anyone wud be horrified and jus drop the bag in trauma. dont ya guys agree??
actually I kno some people that have reacted like that to similar situations, people react differently, like me I think if I were the mom I would've just dropped to the floor crying going ballistic. if I was a by stander I would've prob just stood there stunned after I yell holy shit or something similar to that.
No honey it really happened. I know! You don't want it to happen. Then when you watch it back it looks like slow motion! Just like all those other terrible things you see on video. Big movies are made faster (like Hancock) but THEY are not real.
This just goes to show how a small thing like letting go of a strolling for only a couple of seconds can create a horrible event. And those that blame the mother are refusing to reflect on how many times they have taken their own eyes off their own children playing, or the road in front while driving, or even walk out of the kitchen while cooking... its simple human nature. And with a lucky or unlucky outcome .. God is still in control.
That woman did it on purpose, as it shows her turning the pram at the track then she looks at train and lets go, to me she should have the xhild taken of her.

Someone asked how did she know it would roll away! :)
