Last June I interviewed the courageous and articulate Chinese trade unionist Han Dongfang (韩东方) at the ITUC World Congress in Vancouver. He was adamant about the absolute necessity for workers to have the right to collective bargaining in China and all over the world. Indeed, at Tiananmen Square in 1989, he risked his life for it.
I find it ironic that smashing collective bargaining is exactly what the politicians in Wisconsin and elsewhere are trying to do—making Wisconsin more like Maoist China (under the guise of freedom), while Han from China seeks democracy and free unions. Bizarre.
Big thanks to Dongfang.
