Regina Carter performed this traditional West African inspired piece at the 2011 Detroit Jazz Festival.
Detroit's native daughter drew a packed appreciative crowd to her performance on Sunday.
In 2006 the eclectic virtuoso earned a definately well-deserved MacArthur Fellow (aka "genius grant,"). With it, she delved into researching traditional African folk music, allowing her to create her newest project, Reverse Thread. Her band includes Yacouba Sissoko (Kora, the West African harp traditionally played by village storytellers), Adam Rogers (Guitar), Will Holshouser (Accordion), Chris Lightcap (Bass) and Alvester Garnett (Drums/Percussion).
