here is another surface piercing i preformed on myself. so far they healed up just fine and have taken nicely. The wrist is the most vulnerable spot ive encountered piercing with surface piercings simply due to all the movement in the skin and the amount it gets bumped and torqued. I like using straight barbells because it shows that there is clearly a piercing in the skin that travels an inch and a half or so under the skin and not just 2 metal studs like many U shaped barbells do. Go big or go home, as i say. They do tend to reject quicker. the longest ive kept them in is about a year. after that i take them out and move them up or down the arm an inch or so to let the other spot heal. shops will try and charge 75-150 bucks for these simple piercings and i think it's out outrageous, when the supplies cost around 8 bucks jewelry and all. So far ive piercing hundreds of things on myself and on friends and never had complications above irritation and redness, which heals in a few weeks on its own. In my experience as long as you are somewhat careful and read a little about sanitation and anatomy piercing before you try it, its pretty darn easy to do it your self. Shops just want people to think its some mistic art that takes years of skill to know how to do, when it's usually pretty darn straight forward and they are just trying to make money and boost their egos since they had to go through the hoops of being an apprentice and working their way up the social ladder in the cliques of the tattoo and piercing world.
I did this without a clamp, on my own.. I think it woulda been much easier if I had the clamp.

@ZahnGhor Clamps help a ton for this particular piercing. You gotta be careful you dont go too deep though...there are tendons and muscles ...so make sure you wiggle the skin away from the harder tissues, and get a nice little pinch of it that seems like its just skin and or fat. you can do other methods with a U shaped barbell like punch and tapper, but i like the look of the straight barbells that look more Dr. Frankenstein haha, although they are more susceptible to getting caught on things.
