your doing it wrong. the idea is you shoot at 60fps and then make it 24fps to get that smooth slow motion. i have examples in my videos

@MattsSkateboard by default iMovie processes everything at 30fps and that results in choppy slow motion even if the original was recorded in 60fps. There is a trick, editing iMovie .plist file you can make it process at 60 fps and get much smoother slow motion. Try googling with keywords like: imovie 60 fps plist
