Chaperones help proteins acquire and maintain their shape
The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences has awarded the 2010
Dr H.P. Heineken Prize for Biochemistry and Biophysics (USD150,000) to Professor Franz-Ulrich Hartl, managing director of the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Martinsried, Germany. He is receiving the prize for his contribution to the discovery of the role of "chaperones" in protein folding.
