@mosely900 you can buy a new tranponder from ebay and program it yourself. but to do this you need 2 keys. you place one key into your car and turn it till the light comes on (do not start the engine), place the second key into the driver side door, press the LOCK key the first time, UNLOCK key twice. that is it. remove all keys and your new remote should be working. i did the same thing for my VW passat last month.

@ibfaughn Thats not really true though unless of cause you are talking about programming keys with the T5 transponder chip as it is 1 time programmable. The newer ID48 glass chip on the other hand can be programmed as many times provided it is still in good condition. So basically you can program an old key to your car, provided it is ID48 :-)

Dude, you moved the camera away from what you were doing right at the moment you pop the cap, so we never get to see how you actually did it...

@mosely900 $300 is a decent price for the key they have to order it to the factory that made the car with the specific key code usually

I lost my key to my 06 jetta and I'm using the spare key.. as most ppl know.. to get a replacement from the dealership is ~$300.. I was wondering if the replacement remotes sold online i.e. from ebay. with an uncut key attached out work? and if so is there a way I can program the key/fob myself? I have another friend that is interested in this as well.. plz help

I know that the emergency key needs to be ordered using the VIN but can I reprogram a remote from a different car to work on my new car if it's the same make, model and year? I keep getting different answers. It's a VW Passat 2.0T LUX by the way.
@moy95 From my understanding, you cannot reprogram a key to your Passat that has already been programmed with another Passat. You can go into your local VW Dealership and see if they can, but from my understanding, you will need a brand new key made specifically for your Passat
