@tjw1963 I figured it out and it's looking wonderful! :) Thank you. And sorry if I sent my question a million times... it didn't seem to be posting, but it must have.

Should row one end in a single or a double stitch? Mine ends in a single and that doesn't seem to be what is shown...

@Folashade1000 It would work but you would need to modify an existing pattern to use the stitch

I believe this stitch pattern was called the 'Grid St'
The 'seed st' is alternating (sc, ch1) across, ending with a sc for asll odd number rows. For every even number of rows, sc in the 1st sc and under ch1-sp, (ch1, sc) acrooss to last 2 sts, sc in the last 2 sts.

@crochetguy If you are outside of the USA, you may have learned the stitch under a different name. I have been crocheting this stitch for the past 28 years as the seed stitch. Of course I have come across single crochet stitches that have many different names for the same technique.

Teresa, sorry to bother you again. I've tried this stitch and I really like it (made a square just to try it out). I want to make a baby blankie for a friend, and of all the stitches I tried I like this one better. Can you tell me how many chains should I start with? Thank you!

@elainebitt I would estimate a chain of 130-160 for a baby afghan.
