After speaking at Macalester College on Wednesday night, award-winning journalist Chris Hedges was asked about the FBI's role in the recent targeting of peace activists in the Twin Cities and elsewhere in the Midwest. Nine had their homes searched and were issued subpoenas to appear before a Grand Jury in Chicago. Hedges offered a pessimistic view that the FBI is merely the "jackboot" extension of the ongoing attack on civil liberties. He was also asked about the role of citizen journalists. He'd previously stated, "All journalists should belong to a union and be well-paid." He sees serious issues with the current state of journalism.

  • If you doubt what Hedges says, do a search on Sibel Edmonds.

  • Spot on in his points about salaries. If you check around, many media job postings say unpaid internship. Basically for as long as we can get away with it (until we have to make a hiring decision).

  • Sorry man thats darwinism if you cant adapt to the new changing reality then you go the way of the dodo. That is the way it should be, the way nature had intended

  • Good man.

  • Our owners realize that their system is collapsing.

  • To quote from 1:10: "The only things we pay for any more in this country are public relations and corporate management and everybody else is expected to work without a salary. At its core, we won't pay for beauty or truth: those are fringe commodities within a corporate culture where everything is utilitarian and vocational."

That's what I call 'joining the dots'!

  • Good on ya, Chris! But "watch your sixes".

  • Wonderful!

    Spot on!
