On March 30th, 2011 the Child Welfare League of America held a Town Hall to discuss trends in child welfare. The panel discussion started with a presentation by Bryan Samuels, Commissioner of the Administration for Children, Youth and Families. Immediately after, Christine Devine an anchor with FOX News in Los Angeles led a robust discussion which included: Keith Leiderman, CEO of Kingsley House; Regina Calcaterra, Advocate for Foster Children and Attorney; Daniel Heimpel, Director Fostering Media Connections; Stephanie McGencey, Executive Director of Grantmakers for Children; and Marva Hammons, Executive Vice President of Child and Family Services for Casey Family Programs. Topics covered ranged from how private agencies can support children to how the media covers the foster care system.
Fostering Media Connections is a project of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute. FMC harnesses the power of journalism and media to drive public and political will behind policy and practice that improve outcomes for children experiencing foster care.
