My Tricorders

The first one is a Tricorder Mark X that I built from scratch using GMProps' manual. It is not pretty, but it was my first attempt at a scratch build ever. The shape is generally right, and the size is close, but not perfect. The graphics were just thrown on.

The second is a Tricorder Mark XV from the Voyager episode Relativity. It was made using the correct travel clock and the electronics are from DStines. It was my first tricorder. I made some errors when I was modifying the clock and I hadn't discovered filler putty yet so the blemishes are still in there.

The third is a Modified Playmates TNG tricorder. I modified the body to accept the upgrade kit from GMProps. I also added a new sound module.

The last one is a Rod.com body and a electronic kit that I got from an RPF board member. I did the build up and unfortunately, I messed up the paint job when I was installing the electronics. there is also a couple of problems with the electronics. Some of the lights didn't work after I installed them, so out they came and I did some soldering and most of them work now. I was hoping that this one would be the jewel of my collection, but it would take a lot of redoing to get it there. Some day, when MR starts shipping theirs, I will probably get that one. I am not much of a prop builder but I enjoy my collection anyway.

Thanks for watching

  • @MobiusOne86 the playmate one I did using an upgrade kit designed and built by a fellow prop builder. The modifications were done by me and I installed the blinkies I got from him. Took about 2mweeks working a couple hours a day.

  • Did you have problems using gmprops instructions? Did you find measurements were out, and the most critical parts of the panel installing and glueing etc weren't explained in enough detail? I'm making the same kit as you've made, and I'm following his measurements precisely, and several parts are falling short, not long enough, not wide enough etc.

  • @trekpropguy my measurements were a little off and the box wasn't square when I was done, but I was not taking as much care as I should have to really Donita up right. Mine ended ip thinner than it was supposed to be because I assembled it wrong. This project is not something you can rush through. You have to take your time or else you will end up with a substandard piece. Take it slow and easy and good luck.

  • Hey will you trade me for a built voyager tricorder?

  • sorry, not interested in trading. Thanks

  • I wish I could aford one rhem. Very nice. Are you planning on selling one. Always wanted one but cost so much. Great collection.

  • That's some eye candy you got there! Any chance you would be able to integrate an IR led for remote controlling and arduino or IR enabled chip in say like a PC like mine the USS EURISKO ? Please have a look at my channel and tell me if you'd like to cooperate!

  • That Playmate-Tric Prop is great. Built it yourself? Or can you buy the parts? And how did you do the original opening sound?
