You need to punch him before doing this, we won't be able to do his little trick

@wannabeebee - It is not a demonstration, the guy in white asked what taiji has to offer in avoiding jiujutsu-style locks, so Yang He Fa (a student of Ma Hong) let him try to lock him, so he could show how taiji works with this.
It was 100% improvisation. I was there watching it live. Some guy with a camera happened to notice them and started filming uncalled for, which is why the video starts mid-game.

Locking is not over rated if you look at ChinNa you can rip arms off or tear a head off in combat applications. in addition you can neutralize an opponent. Very difficult in today's world to hit someone as the cops will likely have a lot of witnesses who may just see your hit only. Being well balanced is where it is.
Probably for the same reason the master isn't kneeing him in the crouch or punching him with his free hand.

Watch your language, Dan. Any internal martial artist worth his salt should be able to get out of any lock, standing or on the ground, as long as he's got half an inch (or less if you're good) of space to work with until the lock is tightened completely. Which is what you see here. No fake, just skill! BTW: Locking is overrated anyway, i's much more efficient to knock your opponent right out
