Out of the newspapers and squeaky board the ever exceptionally-versatile Mr Gene Kelly was able to create a brilliant,groundbreaking,and commendable solo tap-dance number as one of the main attractions in MGM's Summer Stock.How exuberant,inventive,and well-coordinated his dance steps & his animated interaction with the papers & the plank were.His whistling,his board-tapping,his paper-ripping,and Mr Harry Warren's beautiful music had remarkably produced truly-wonderful sound and pleasant mood.

This is probably my favorite dance sequence of all time. Great song with a killer arrangement, and the tap is outstanding in its rhythm and in its technique as well as aesthetic.

The creativity of the piece in it's execution is an epitome of the idea of dance which Gene always propagated in his movies. Anytime, anywhere, with anything. An idea of spontaneous, beautiful expression.
