Michael Gira played a solo concert in the small room of Theater Kikker in Utrecht.

God Damn The Sun (originally released on the 1989 Swans album 'The Burning World') was the final song of the evening.

There's a new Angels of Light album out, check out all details at http://www.younggodrecords.com.

  • @mikeplaid Gira was using that cowboy hat and others before snapping Swans, and although I agree that the new Swans is more his solo stuff than the original Swans, it is still a fantastic incarnation of the old band he's got going, it combines the rawness of the early band with the more musically oriented nature of the 90's lineup.

And who cares if he's being anachronistic, that's his fashion statement and that's it...

  • @mikeplaid you have no taste in music. to even use billy gorgan in the saME . FUCK YOU. IM TOO MAD

  • @err0r Why don't you go cry about it. As a listener I am free to evaluate music any way I please. We have seen the same move by Billy Corgan and his reformation of the Smashing Pumpkins minus Jimmy Chamberline, the name Swans and Smashing Pumpkins are mere selling points, in their present incarnations they do not imply anything musically apart from a facade and a brand name. Gira should just play Swans songs as a solo artist, same with Corgan. They shouldn't bullshit us otherwise.

  • @mikeplaid You fucking tool. An artist isn't going to retain the same image they've become known for just to please you. Just deal with this irrefutable fact -- that these people do not exist simply to gratify your pigeon-holing idea of what an artist should and should not be.

  • @mikeplaid WHAttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt.

  • Yeah, the angels of light stuff is alright, but overall I can do without the whole good ol' singer songwriter getup and image (the country style hat, suspenders, farmer clothes, etc). First of all, it's a horrible anachronistic cliche, which takes me by surprise for a guy like Gira who defied that sort of thing at everything turn of his career in Swans. It gets even worse with the new Swans record which is essentially his solo acoustic stuff with accompaniment. Glad they're back, but fairly lame

  • @sniffthestuff no, its really changed, go watch some of his older live videos. his voice actually used to be that deep and powerful.

  • when was this?
