"insane dreams"? really? thats one of your complaints, kind of key to lovecrafts writings. "cliff hanger"? you are clearly not very well reads in the works of lovecraft if your suprised by a cliff hanger ending. your bashing on a perfectly good movie probably because you dont understand the nature of the cthulhu mythos. read up before you try to slate another movie. it would be better for fans and nebbies of the mythos without silly reviews like this mudding the waters.
that is all.

you need to read more of the mythos. there are hundreds maybe even thousands of intertwined stories with every writer changing, adding, subtracting, and envisioning the stories in their own way. the writer has taken his own swing at this and has did a good job considering some of the other hpl movies out there "from beyond" case in point. awful adaptation of a great story.

I loved this movie. It gets two thumbs up for me.

If you have seen the film of H.P. Lovecraft Dagon i think you will be more satisfied.

The movie is being used as a way to tell another story besides a retelling of Shadow Over Insmouth. The backdrop of the very frightening Lovecraft story is a good fit to tell another more common tale of terror. The allegory is pretty clear. Real fear can lie in something as simple as going home. In particular when going home means returning to a small isolated town where, to quote the sheriff's deputy, "your kind..." aren't welcome.
Brilliantly done!!!

A purist I see. Lovecraft MEANT for his work to be continued and changed. Holding his work up as gospel is a futile exercise. Alot of the monsters from the mythos where fleshed out by his sucessors, not by him. If you want the shadow over innsmouth see the movie Dagon, except for being in a different town its closer to the story. I agree with you though that the gay took away from the story and shouldnt have been so pronounced.
