Promethée, ou le Poème du Feu (Symphony no.5)

Peter Jablonski, piano
Mayuko Iguchi, light-and-colour keyboard
Kunitachi Music College chorus
NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo
Vladimir Ashkenazy, conductor

February 25, 2006 NHK Hall, Tokyo
The 80th anniversary concert in NHKSO establishment

This performance is the first attempt in the world that faithfully reproduces "Part of light" that Scriabin wrote in the score with a lot of comments.

Recently, it turned out that those who composed had left writing the light-and-colour keyboard for the first edition score owned to Bibliotheque nationale of Paris. It was researched and investigated by Ms. Yasuko Nohara (musicologist) , and a concrete performance method was almost clarified.

To achieve very complex "Part of light" that Scriabin intended, a huge LED image mesh screen was set up on the stage. And a round screen (that can be moved) and various spotlights reinforce the image of light. The operation of the light-and-colour keyboard is as follows;

The player operates two keyboards connected with the computer. The color, strength, and pattern of light that falls on the screen can be controlled in using the computer. Moreover, the LED image mesh screen can be reproduced as the player thinks of a variegated optical type like lightning and the flash, etc. that those who composed left.

    THANK YOU

  • Fascinating. Scriabin had so many fantastic ideas. I'd really like to know how he would think about this performance with the technical possibilites he only could dream of.
