I remember when I was a kid.......just about every community in McDowell County, West Virginia had a school. Hardly anybody rode the bus because the school was right where you lived. They seldom called school off because of snow, because we all walked. Those are good memories. I hope to eventually photograph every remaining school building left here. This video shows only a few. I hope you enjoy.

  • @55gene That's cool.

  • Thank you for the video and the memories. I'm from Iaeger and did ride the bus because we didn't live in town. Loved growing up in the small safe community where everybody knew everybody. I love McDowell County and though I haven't lived there in years it will always be my home!

@Scottlanter - I live in a small community not far from you - I live in Hillsboro. I love your Kroger's Marketplace. :-)

  • @TheMimiof8 Glad you enjoyed the video......

  • Thank you, bassthumper, for sharing this video. My mother was born in War, and lived in Coalwood until she was 7 years old. She remembers her school very well. The last time we saw the old Coalwood school was about 35 years ago. We live in southern Ohio nowi in a rural community called Mt. Orab. My mother is 71 now, and she wants visit Coalwood to see her hometown soon. Even though no one is there who would still remember her, she has fond memories. We are planning to take her this year.

  • @ScottLanter I hope you have a wonderful visit. I hope your mother is not taken back and saddened by all the changes. Thanks for writing and God bless.
